A well-made spaghetti bolognese is one of the best dishes you can imagine. Ingredients

  • 1 pound of minced beef
  • 1 onion
  • 2 carrots
  • 2 celery stalks
  • 6 cloves garlic
  • 1 tin of chopped tomatoes
  • 1 cup of red wine
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound of spaghetti
  • Grated Parmesan for topping
  • Fresh basil for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add your chopped onion, carrots, and celery. Sauté until soft.
  2. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  3. Add minced beef to the pot. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Pour in the red wine and let it simmer for a couple of minutes until slightly reduced.
  4. Stir in chopped tomatoes, beef or vegetable broth, tomato paste, oregano, basil, thyme, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
  5. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let it simmer for at least 1 hour, stirring occasionally to enhance the flavors.
  6. Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain. Serve your sauce hot over the cooked spaghetti. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh chopped basil or parsley.
