Grapefruit can get forgotten about when compared with its citrus cousins, oranges, lemons and limes. But these pink-fleshed fruits are packed full of vitamin C, and have a sharp, distinctive flavor which can make them really useful in cooking and baking. Their acidic properties also mean they can be used like lemons, as part of natural cleaning solutions. Check out these three ways to use these fruits in your kitchen.

Grapefruit Soda

Ingredients (to serve 2):

  • 1 pink grapefruit
  • 1 1/2 cups of soda water
  • 1 tablespoon of lime cordial
  • 1 tablespoon of honey

Instructions:

  1. Juice the grapefruit and mix the grapefruit juice with the soda water.
  2. Stir in the lime cordial and honey, mix well until all of the ingredients are combined.
  3. Serve with ice.

Grapefruit Cleanser (for cleaning)

Ingredients:

  • Juice of 1 grapefruit
  • 2 tablespoons of white wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda

Instructions:

  1. Mix all of the ingredients together in a plastic container.
  2. Spritz over surfaces to remove grease and gunk. It can be worth rinsing down the solution with a dampened cloth afterwards.

Grapefruit Overnight Oats
