Whether you love them or hate them, leftovers are an inevitable part of eating and cooking. Some days you simply cook far too much, while on some other days you don’t have the appetite to finish the food that’s on our plate. Instead of throwing away all that leftover food, there are some great ways to help you love and get the most out of your leftovers.

If you don’t think that you’re going to eat those leftovers after two days, just freeze them. Most foods can be frozen without any problem and not only will freezing leftovers ensure that you won’t throw them in the trash, but it will also help you save money and have a guaranteed meal for when you’re tired and don’t want to cook.

Label the food

You’ll be surprised at how common it can be to forget when you put your leftover food in the freezer. You may be sure that the pizza you had the other night was put in the blue container, but when you open the freezer to see it filled with UFO’s (unidentified frozen objects), you realize you have to scrummage through the containers to find that pizza you were looking for. Label your leftovers with what it is and when it was cooked in order to save precious time and to just make it easier on yourself.

Use the leftovers to create something new

If your leftovers are accumulating in the refrigerator, set aside a night where you’ll raid the refrigerator and create something new out of the leftover food. Try to master a couple of simple techniques that’ll help transform those unappetizing leftovers into a delicious meal. You can try make a pasta bake with that leftover pasta that’s been in the refrigerator for the last couple of days or make a soup from those leftover vegetables.
