Goan fish curry is an absolutely delicious dish that is also super healthy. It has a slightly sweet and sharp flavor that goes great with the creaminess of the sauce and the umami flavor of your fish. Here’s a recipe for how to make it.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of fresh white fish fillets
  • 1 cup of shredded coconut
  • 4 red chillies
  • 1 tablespoon of coriander seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
  • A large pinch of turmeric powder
  • 6 garlic cloves
  • 1 inch of ginger
  • 2 white onion
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds
  • 4 medium tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon of tamarind paste
  • 1 cup of coconut milk
  • Fresh coriander
  • Salt

Instructions

  1. Using a blender, combine your coconut with your red chillies, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, garlic cloves, ginger, and one of your onions. You may need to add some water to blend it until a smooth paste is achieved.
  2. Heat your cooking oil in a pan, add your mustard seeds for a couple of minutes and your chopped onions. Saute for about 10 minutes until the onions are golden brown. Add your chopped tomatoes and cook until they are soft. Add your masala paste and cook on medium heat for 5 minutes, continuously stirring.
  3. Add some tamarind paste and your coconut milk to the curry and mix well.
  4. Add a generous pinch of salt and simmer the curry for five minutes. Add your fish pieces to the curry and simmer for a further 10-15 minutes.
  5. Finally, garnish your curry with some fresh coriander and serve with naan or rice!
